Table Runner

My Last Island Batik Ambassador Challenge of the Year

2017 is coming to a close, and before it does, I wanted to share with you my December Island Batik Challenge.

This month, the challenge was to make a scrappy table runner. I was inspired by the spirit of the season and created "Silent Witness."

I designed my table runner for my marble top chest, located in my entrance way beneath a large mirror. I think it looks wonderful there!

Although I pulled a variety of batiks from several different collections to make my runner, several came from the new Pumpkin Patch collection.

I edge-stitched the appliques and quilted the trees at the same time. For the sky, I used a swirly, snowy night quilting design.

For the binding, I used a two color binding that matched the quilt top.

Here are the quilt details:

"Silent Witness"
14" x 35"
Fabrics: Various Island Batiks, including the Pumpkin Patch collection
Pattern: Original Design
Batting: Quilter's Dream Request
Piecing Thread: Aurifil 50 wt. #2605 Grey
Quilting Thread:  Sulky 40 wt #561 (Lipstick) and #1028 (Baby Blue), Gutterman 50 wt #8640 (Dark Spruce), Wonderfil 40 wt #4116 (Palmetto Green), Wonderfil Konfetti100 wt #606 (Peacock Blue), #707 (Pine Green), and #414 (Soft Tan), Robinson-Anton 40 wt (Gold)

I have really enjoyed my Island Batik challenges this year! They really push me to be creative. In this case, I had to tweak my original idea until I found something that would work with the various batiks I was given. I love that tiny pop of red that the cardinal provides! And when I discovered that I didn't have any brown or white that I could use for the ground, I decided to use blue! I know, the ground isn't blue. But doesn't it look wonderful?

I hope you have a wonderful New Year. I've got one more Island Batik challenge to do (our year runs from February to January). In January, me and my fellow Island Batik Ambassadors are hosting a blog hop to feature all the new Island Batik collections. The hop begins January 8th, right here on my blog.
