Bee Inspired and the Quilt Con Charity Quilt Challenge

As you might know I belong to an online bee known as Bee Inspired. Recently, one of our members asked if we’d like to participate in the Quilt Con Charity Quilt Challenge and of course I said yes!

In a nutshell, as a group we are making a quilt for charity that will be shown at Quilt Con. The color palette this year is white/grey/black.

The quilt design is up to us, but it must include text as an integral part of the design. We came up with a theme (You got this!) and quickly divided the quilt into 16” x 32” blocks that each member would piece. Most of us are using English for our text, but some of us have ventured into other languages. I believe our quilt will include French, German, Greek, Gaelic, Spanish and Italian. I chose Italian because Italy was the last county my sister visited before she passed away last year.

Translated into Italian, You got this became Ce la fa. Not wanting to simply trust Google to translate, I joined an Italian language group online so I could get a native translation.

Another thing our group decided was to include one or more Friendship Stars in our block. I decided to use a variety of fabrics, moving from very light grey in the upper left to dark grey and black in the lower right.

For the letters, I moved from a very dark grey on the left to a very light grey on the right for the most contrast.

Here are some of the other blocks.

Velda @ Freckled Fox Quiltery has volunteered to sew the blocks into a quilt top for us, and Ann @ Brown Paws Quilting has volunteered to quilt it.

We will collectively choose a charity to give the quilt to after it has hung at Quilt Con 2020. I can’t wait to see the rest of the blocks. I think the quilt will be wonderful once it’s all put together.
