My Second 2019 Island Batik Ambassador Box!

As an Island Batik Ambassador, I receive a surprise box of goodies twice a year to use in making our monthly challenge quilts.

It’s July, so that means it’s time to open my second box of Island Batik goodies. My first box of the year was actually two boxes and it was jam-packed with awesomeness! I simply can’t wait to open this box for you. Just look how big it is!

Bur first—if you like batiks as much as I do—be sure to follow me so you don’t miss the eye candy. Even if batiks are not your thing, I’m sure you’ll love the Island Batik challenges, my new patterns, and the beautiful quilts I create. Not to mention the giveaways! You’ll find the ways to follow at the top of my sidebar.

Now back to my box. Every time I receive a box from Island Batik my heart skips. I love surprises, and their surprises are always awesome. So what exactly did I get this time?

Watch my video to find out. <grin>

Wow! That was beyond cool! Let me slow things down a bit and take a look at my goodies one by one.

Let’s take a closer look at what was inside my box

First out of the box were three quilt battings from Hobbs. Hobbs is partner in the Island Batik Ambassador program, and they send us batts we can use in our monthly challenges. I have loved Hobbs’ battings for a long time and was so grateful when they joined the Island Batik Ambassador program.

This time Hobbs generously sent one Queen size Heirloom Natural Cotton batting (this batt is both soft and strong—it doesn’t stretch out like some cotton batts) and two Throw size Tuscany Wool batts (soft, warm, and light—these batts are favored by prize-winning longarmers). I love quilting with wool so getting two of these batts was quite a treat!

Up next was Aurifil thread—four 50 wt spools! The Island Batik Ambassador program has several partners including Aurifil so we typically get a few spools of this wonderful thread in our boxes.

The thread colors they included in my box this time coordinate with the batik collections I was sent. Aren’t the colors lovely?

Here are the color numbers if you’d like to grab these colors for yourself. When I present my monthly challenges I always include the thread color and number so you can see how specific threads will look in a quilt project. I also include the batting I used in a quilt so you can see how that works as well. Be sure to follow me if you want to see what I’m making for my challenge quilt this month!

Another Ambassador partner is AccuQuilt GO! As you know, I got a new AccuQuilt GO! fabric cutting system in my first box for 2019, so I was curious as to which die or dies I might get in my second box.

This time AccuQuilt sent a BOB die. BOB stands for Block on Board, and these are special dies you can use to cut an entire block in one swipe through the cutter. Included in my box was the Spider Web 6” Finished die. As you can see, the block is really striking! I can’t wait to design a new quilt with it.

In our boxes, Island Batik always includes a precut in a new collection plus coordinating fabrics I can use for the borders, backing or background of the quilt I make with the precuts. This time they sent a layer cake and two 2-yard cuts of coordinating fabrics (one light, one dark) from the Electric Desert collection. Electric Desert is part of the Spring 2019 collection which will appear in quilt stores beginning September 2019.

I know that it might be confusing, but Spring collections debut at Spring Market in May. Quilt shops order them and they arrive in stores beginning in the fall. They are often spring-themed because it’s at that time of year we quilters often want to make spring quilts. Right now in your quilt stores you should be finding fall and winter themed fabrics so you can make your holiday quilts. These fabrics debuted at the last Fall Market in October 2018.

Island Batik always includes yardage from their Foundations collections in our boxes. Foundations are batiks that are available all the time, which makes them easy to find in your local quilt store. This time I got two Foundations bundles. Here’s the bundle that coordinates with Electric Desert—included are 8 half-yard cuts (4 from the Basics collection and 4 from the Blenders collection.)

I just love purple and teal, so this collection simply sings to me!

A second precut collection was also included in the box—this time a 2-1/2” strip set and two 2-yard cuts from coordinating fabrics (again, one light and one dark). This collection is called Little Sir, Little Miss and it’s from the Summer 2019 collection which will begin appearing in quilt stores in November 2019.

Island Batik also sent a second bundle of Foundations batiks to coordinate with the Little Sir, LIttle Miss collection. Again, I got 8 half-yard cuts, 4 Basics and 4 Blenders.

Island Batik also included a third collection, which is from the Spring 2019 collection. This one is called Seedlings. What you see here are 1/4 yard cuts. You can do a lot with a 1/4 yard if you have enough of them, and I certainly do here. Can’t wait to see what I make of this. The colors are rich and delicious.

Something else Island Batik likes to include in our boxes is a nice neutral we can use as the background in a quilt or quilts. This time I received 4 yards of a light grey batik called Coconut. Coconut is part of the Neutrals collection.

Island Batik makes solid batiks in black, white, and grey and they always include them in our boxes so we can pair them with other batiks for a modern, crisp look. This time they included 4 yards each of grey, white, and black.

I don’t know if you know it yet, but Island Batik now makes solids in other colors! Perhaps we’ll get some in our next box. Click here if you want to see the new solid batiks from Island Batik.

An impressive list of goodies, don’t you think? As usual, I’m simply overwhelmed by the generosity of Island Batik.

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm off to finish my July Island Batik challenge quilt, which is to create something that uses at least three different weights of Aurifil thread.
