Wednesday Wait Loss 17

Hi everyone and welcome back to Wednesday Wait Loss. I hope you’ve made progress on your WIPs this week! It’s been another busy week for me. This weekend was all about the 101st running of the Indy 500. We went out to the track on Saturday the day before the race, for Legends Day. Got to meet a lot of past and current Indycar drivers and get autographs.

Will Power, Marco Andretti, and Tony Kanaan

Sage Karam, Jay Howard, Helio Castroneves

Bobby Unser

Gil de Farran

Bobby Rahal

Al Unser Jr.

On Sunday they held the race with all its pageantry. Since it’s held on Memorial Day weekend, they incorporate a lot of military honors. For example, they always select honorees from each branch of the military, and parade them around the track in Pace cars. Another tradition is the fly over during the national anthem, and this year it was a B-52.

New this year was using the military to deliver the checkered flag. Members of the Screaming Eagles from Vietnam, Iraq, and Iran delivered the flag by arriving in helicopters and shimming down a rope to the ground. The most thrilling sight was their exit, when the helicopter circled back, dropped a rope, and they all shimmied up, taken away while still clinging to the rope. The two helicopters (this display was duplicated in Turn 4 while I sat in Turn 1) then passed each other by mere feet while the men hung on. I can’t imagine having to do this in battle conditions while simultaneously shooting and getting shot at---all I saw was brave men and women who protect me. I live in the land of the free, because of the brave.

Quilting-wise, I’ve been working on my May challenge for Island Batik. I’m at the quilting stage so you’ll be seeing it soon. Meanwhile, here is a sneak peak.

Time for my weekly shout out! This week I want to feature Karen @ Tuna Quilts, Travels, and Eats. Karen linked up for the first time last week, and shared her elephant quilt which has been a work in progress for a while. Let’s give her the encouragement she needs to get this finished! Karen is a member of my online bee, Bee Inspired, and I really appreciate her support.

Karen is a member of my online bee, Bee Inspired, and I really appreciate her support. As you might gather from the title of her blog, Karen travels regularly so in order to get any quilting done, she has to be well organized. Look at those clips, labels and bags! Isn't her organization an inspiration?

Congratulations Karen! Grab an “I Was Featured” button for your blog.
