Furry Fridays Week 1

Hi! Island Batik Ambassadors are celebrating Furry Fridays for the next six weeks. Each week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets via the PetFinder Foundation, and sharing how you can support pet rescue efforts across the United States.

You may recall a few weeks ago when I shared my Island Batik Kennel Quilts. Aren’t they adorable? Kennel quilts are designed to fit inside small pet carriers to provide an extra layer of comfort to animals rescued after a disaster. You too can make kennel quilts and help pets in need. They are quick and easy to make, and a great way to use up your quilty scraps. Click here to learn how to make kennel quilts for TQPM Small Kennel Quilt Team.

When it was time for the Island Batik Ambassadors to make kennel quilts, I was going through a difficult time. My cat Lucy was dying, and making kennel quilts was my way of dealing with it. If you’re having difficulties in your life, I highly recommend making kennel quilts as therapy.

My thanks to QuiltyBox, this week’s Furry Friday sponsor. If you order their special edition box, you will help the Small Kennel Quilt Team and its rescue efforts.

Now let’s meet this week’s featured rescue animals. First up is Catnine, a sweet cat who went through an awful lot before being saved by Zeus’ Rescues in New Orleans. Catnine could use a lot of loving after recently suffering a broken leg and jaw, so hopefully you or someone you know would be willing to provide it.

Next up is June, a rescue dog from Manhattan, New York City. June is six years old, well behaved, and gentle. Help us spread the word about these wonderful rescues who only need a stable home and a little love to prosper.

Finally, I want to let you know about a virtual Kennel Quilt Retreat sponsored by TQPM (The Quilt Pattern Magazine) and it’s Small Kennel Quilt Team. Set aside March 18th and 19th if you can and spend the time making kennel quilts with online friends! Click here for more info.

Please make kennel quilts if you can. The details for donating them are here, along with the specific guidelines. Come back next Friday for Furry Friday when I will feature two more rescues. In the meantime, you can visit the other Island Ambassadors who are hosting Furry Friday this week.
