Quilting with My Daughter

My daughter has always marched to her own drum. Or I should say, she’s always sung her own tune. Literally. When she was little, she used to make up songs and sing them all the time. At first it was adorable. Then it was cute. Then it was, “Man, she sings all the time!”

In Montessori, Katerina had her teachers convinced that she couldn’t read because she refused to read the simple “Cat sat, Pat sat” type books they wanted her to read. She was only 3, but she was already reading chapter books and didn’t feel like reading baby books just to prove to her teachers she could read.

In college, she put up a bunch of posters for the movies, shows, and games she enjoys and used them to identify fellow nerds. In short, my daughter knows what she likes and what she doesn’t and doesn’t waste time doing things she doesn’t enjoy.

So when she took up quilting, I was thrilled and excited!

In truth, she has the quilting bug, but not quilting fever. So like everything else in her life, Katerina quilts when she feels like it, and not just to get something done.

The other day, Katerina and I spent the day quilting. I worked on my Pulse quilt blocks, while she worked on her Halloween quilt. We sat facing each other and oohing and ahhing what the other was working on. I love spending time with her, especially when we get to share one of the things I love to do!

So it’s been a fun week. I sure will sure miss her when she returns to college in the fall! Sigh.

It’s also been a busy week. The Christmas in July blog hop has started! My day isn’t until next week, but be sure to visit Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict today to start having fun! Two new tutorials for Christmas quilts, giftables, or décor items will be featured every day—plus there’s a quilt along in case you want company while you quilt for Christmas.

Meanwhile, the New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop is continuing through this week and next. Here's a list of my hive mates who are participating this week. Please visit them and say hello.

Also, in case you missed my previous post the deadline to order the July Stash Builder Box is July 15th. Be sure to use the coupon code IHEARTSBB at checkout for $3 off your first order!
