I had a lovely Easter and I hope you had a nice weekend too. The weather here was very nice but even nicer still, my daughter was home for the weekend!
Despite being busy this weekend, I managed to finish another project--however late it might be for its intended holiday, which was Valentine’s. Luckily, my valentine doesn’t care about punctuality. He just loves that I take the time to make him something--even if it's a month late. Me, I’m gonna ignore the calendar and instead revel in a project I got done early for once!
This is my own design and I had a lot of fun making it. I really like how the letters turned out and how cool that rick-rack looks running down the middle. I might make this into a pattern if there's enough interest.
I quilted the background with a loopy meander with a few hearts thrown in every once in a while. Since I didn’t want my less than perfect quilting to stand out too much, I used white Aurifil for the white squares and a beautiful red-violet Wonderfil that blended perfectly from the brown to the red for the rest of the background.
I decided to quilt the hearts because they seemed kind of puffy after all the background quilting was done.
I used a jelly roll from Moda’s All You Need is Love fabric line to piece the front, and various scraps from my stash for the hearts and letters. I used a larger piece from the All You Need is Love fabric collection for the back. This project barely cuts into my stash of Valentine’s fabrics, so I see other Valentines inspired quilts in my future. <grin>
I used two different methods to do the applique hearts and letters, which I talked about in an earlier post. I had thought about machine-finishing the binding, but decided against it when I realized I could do it by hand in the car as we were driving Katerina back to school. I wanted to get this one done more than I wanted the convenience of a machine binding.
Here are the details:
14” x 50”
Quilter’s Dream batting
Moda’s All You Need is Love fabric for the background, various scraps for the hearts and letters
This was another UFO on my 2016 Finish Along list, so check that one off! Yippee!
I share my blog posts with these awesome linky parties!
