Thank you thank you for the wonderful response to my very first quilt along! I’m so excited to share this journey with you! Already I’m seeing great fabric ideas, questions, and well wishes. This is already such a great group and we are going to have tons of fun!
If you haven’t done it already, please join the Facebook and/or Flickr groups. There you can start sharing your ideas, questions, photos and support as we begin to get this thing underway!
Bloggers, I’d love you to add my button to your blog! Let me know you've done that in a comment and I'll add you to my blogroll in the sidebar. The button and its code is in my sidebar.
I’ve seen some great questions already, and I thought I’d take a moment to answer them here:
Is this a beginner pattern?
Yes indeedy! Stepping Stones is fast, easy and very beginner friendly. Each week during the quilt along I’ll post not only the instructions for that step, but photos too! And at any time if you have questions, just post them here or in the Facebook or Flickr groups. Community is what makes doing a quilt along so much fun, and already this looks like a great group!
Do I need to purchase a pattern to participate?
I will be providing the yardage, cutting directions, and complete instructions for making Stepping Stones in a lap size in both versions--the yardage version that's more planned, and the layer cake/fat quarters version that's more scrappy. If you want to make Stepping Stones in a different size, you will need to purchase the pattern which includes all the details for making Stepping Stones in four sizes. The pattern will be available soon in my shop.
Will this pattern work for charm packs instead of layer cakes?
Actually, yes it will! I’m already working on a miniature version of Stepping Stones that I’m calling Stepping Stones Mini. I hope to be able to include that as an option for the quilt along as well (in a baby quilt size only), and to have the pattern for the Mini in other sizes available in my shop before the quilt along starts.
Do I need to quilt this thing myself?
No, not at all! But during Week 8 of the quilt along we’ll talk about various ways in which you might (or your longarmer might) quilt Stepping Stones. We’ll then take a week off and meet again two weeks later to show off our finished beauties. Some of you will be showing finished quilted quilts, while others will be showing lovely unfinished quilt tops ready for quilting. It’s our Show and Tell, and by gum we can do what we want! <grin>
If you don’t get your quilt quilted by Show and Tell time, you’ll be able to return at a later date and add your updated photo. I would love that! During Show and Tell, I’ll encourage everyone to share what they’ve done, finished or not!
OK….enough questions for now. Time to announce the winners. I had people commenting here on two posts and on Facebook, so I compiled a list of all the participants and assigned a number (or numbers, for those of you who qualified for multiple chances) to everyone. Then I used Random.org to pick the winners. Can I have a drum roll?
The first place winner is Leanne Shea Anderson!
Congratulations Leanne! So glad you are joining our quilt along. I’ll email you and as soon as you reply with your postal address I'll send you an autographed copy of my book!
The first of the two winners of a free choice pattern is Dawn Hunt Barach!
Congratulations Dawn! I can't wait to see what fabrics you'll be using!
The second of the two winners of a free choice pattern is Christine Slaughter!
Congratulations Christine! I'm so glad the timing will work out for you. I'm looking forward to this as well!
Dawn and Christine, I'll email you both! Please let me know which pattern you prefer…Water Vortex, Mirage, or Stepping Stones (which will be available soon).
For those of you who didn't win, don't despair! I'm working right now on additional giveaways for our quilt along.
