I must confess..I love it all! The rush of holiday shopping, the last-minute present wrapping, and the smell of cookies baking in the oven. I even love digging out after a big snowfall.
I also love Christmas quilts because they make me warm just looking at them. I especially love using them to decorate my home for the holidays. This table runner was given to me by a quilting friend, and I love it because it reminds me of her, and how lucky I am to have so many good friends.
When I was designing Peppermint Twist, I was inspired by Christmas peppermints. I remember one year trying to make holiday bark. The way I make it is easy: I just melt white and dark chocolate, then sprinkle it with various candies and bits of pretzel before it hardens. That year, I wanted to add real peppermints, but had forgotten to pick up some candy canes to break up for the bark. Not wanting to stop the holiday baking train, I decided that I’d just break up some peppermints I happened to have on-hand. Needless to say, four plastic bags and one very sore hand later, I drove to the store to get the candy canes. I still love peppermints, but to eat, and not to use in my holiday baking!
To design Stargazer, I started with an Ohio Star block and then added my own touches. I chose the color scheme using my favorite lily, Stargazer, as inspiration. It wasn’t until later that I realized Stargazer would also make a nice Christmas quilt. It’s so fresh and modern!
Well, it’s back to baking for me, and finishing up my Christmas gifts. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a big snow just like last year. Happy holidays everyone!
